Changing lives for GOOD!

Every person in South Africa, and possibly the world, has been affected and impacted over the past two years, not only by the covid epidemic itself but by severe repercussions in many areas particularly in livelihoods.  Parents may have been without employment; several businesses have been on part time but for every learner their worlds have almost imploded! Little or no schooling has been the “norm” and if there have been classes online none of our children from Kids Club have access to mobile data!  Rotational learning also proved challenging hence we are extremely proud of several children who have continued to thrive, grow and learn despite many obstacles.

Three students, two boys and a girl, have recently been accepted at Overberg High School in Caledon www.hsoverberg.com.  They began 2022 in a totally new environment taking on the challenge of becoming weekly boarders at the mainly Afrikaans residences. One Siphila Sonke staff member, Unathi, drives our two Grade 10 boys and Grade 8 learner, Asisipho Nongogo, the 48 kilometres to Caledon early each Monday morning and then collects them after school on a Friday afternoon.

Asisipho seen in our photo receiving a certificate of merit from teacher Lien, says she is learning, growing and enjoying it all!

Five other Kids Club learners have received sponsorship for Grabouw High School as well as a further learner has a place at Astra High School for disabled children.  Thank you to each and every friend of Siphila Sonke who has made this accelerated learning possible.
